The Engineering Division has an exciting entry level opportunity for an Assistant Business Manager to join The System Engineering Group, encompassing a wide variety of financial, administrative and operations responsibilities.  The candidate should be team oriented and possess strong communication skills. An ability to work successfully with others is essential, as is the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, multi-faceted office. The successful candidate will be professional and have the ability to communicate with individuals from varied backgrounds.

 

The System Engineering Group engineers ensure that all the components of a system work together to achieve the desired results. Our work ranges from trade and design studies at the beginning of a program to planning and executing the assembly, integration, and test of prototype systems. We also plan and execute testing to validate that a system performs properly. Our teams handle most of the large prototype systems developed by the Laboratory, including space payloads and satellites for sensing and communication, and airborne and ground-based systems. Recent technologies we have worked on include deployable antennas for small satellites and propulsion systems for CubeSats.

 

The priorities of this position are:

Financial Excellence: cost estimating, budget analysis, spend plans, business application expertise and financial reporting

 

Business Operations: DoD ceiling management, resource analysis, policies and procedures, procurement, space, security and new programs

 

Communication and Collaboration: written and verbal communication skills, internal and external networking

 

Initiative: self-motivation, critical thinking, continuing education, and promote efficiency

 

Project Management: proposal preparation, understand goals and objectives, schedule and cost performance

 

The Assistant Business Manager will support the Group’s financial portfolio and day to day business operations of the Group. The Assistant Business Manager will partner with the Group Office to assist in smooth and efficient operations of the Group.  Heavy focus will be in financial analysis and reporting and procurements. 

 

Financial Analysis and Reporting

Create program/task level cost estimates (in conjunction with program managers) and track budget to actuals.

Manage project level financial reporting provided to internal sponsors and program managers. In addition, provide STE and ceiling management.

 

Procurement

Serves as primary point of contact for all the group’s procurements and actively tracks all critical and long lead-time procurements. Guide technical staff through the steps of the procurement process.

Review and edit all “statements of work” and “memorandums of justification” for clarity of purpose.

Manage the procurement of consultant services and subcontractor labor. 

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a concentration preference in Business, Finance, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Business Analytics or Management.
  • 1-3 years of applicable experience outside of education.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, Outlook)
  • Ability to analyze and create financial results/reports
  • Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills, and organizational skills
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance is required.
