Job Description

The Surveillance Systems Group pioneers integrated sensing and decision support systems for both Air Traffic Control and Homeland Air Defense. To accomplish these goals, this group employs a broad base of analysis, modeling, algorithm development, RF and digital hardware design, and system integration skills.

A CO-OP Student is needed to help with design and analysis of collision avoidance and surveillance algorithm perfomance of an aircraft collision avoidance system. Tasks include: algorithm development for collison avoidance and surveillance logic, performing analysis using modeling and simulation framework written in C/C++ conducted on the Lincolm supercomputing capability, analyzing simulation output and documenting results, and developing algorithm improvements based on conclusions. Specific tasks will depend on specific skills and interests. This work supports the FAA in the design and development of next generation collision avoidance systems for both unmanned aircraft and Urban Air Mobility. The selected interen will be asked to carry out these taks under the mentor-ship and supervision of a member of the Lincoln Laboratory staff. At the end of this time period, the student will be expected to present the results of his/her work.


- Currently enrolled in an accredited college program

- Working towards a graduate or undergraduate degree in Engineering (any type), Computer Science, Physics or Mathematics

- Experience with MATLAB required, experience with C++ is desired

- Previous experience in a professional work environment desired

- Experience with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is desired, knowledge of aviation domain is a plus.
