Job Description

The Systems Engineering Group seeks a co-op to assist staff members in performing Systems Engineering, Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering, and/or Computer Science tasks.  Example projects include imaging sensors, laser communications systems, and radar systems for airborne, terrestrial and space environments with an emphasis on small satellites and CubeSat applications.  Systems Engineering duties may include supporting payload architecture definition (optical, mechanical, electrical), generating system-level block diagrams (electrical and/or mechanical), environment hazard analysis of sensitive components, integration and test planning, and Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) work.  Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering duties may include creating and running finite element models using MSC/PATRAN, analyzing model results, structural and thermal testing, design using SolidWorks, creating databases, and running software analysis codes.  Computer Science tasks may include creating system models, creating software analysis models and analyzing the results using Matlab.

The successful candidate should have at least a junior standing in their engineering or physics field.   Programs of study include Aeronautics/Astronautics, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or equivalent. Finite element analysis and/or CAD experience preferred, but not required.  MBSE experience also preferred, but not required.  The length of the co-op term is 4-6 months.
