The Homeland Protection Systems Group conducts systems analysis on a broad range of problems related to surface surveillance, force protection, and homeland defense. Activities include sensor and system modeling, mission requirements analysis, and architecture development. A variety of technologies are examined, including radar, optical, acoustic, biological, and chemical sensors. Modeling and the analysis of field measurements are used to quantify the ability of current and proposed technology to meet mission requirements. This work includes analysis, algorithm development, and field testing.

Role Description:

This position is to support the design, development, implementation, and testing of prototype systems. The candidate will work in a team-oriented development environment, following an Agile development process. Candidate should be willing to work in outdoor test environments. At a minimum, candidates should have a B.S. degree in EE or related field or 5 years of experience. Experience in the following areas is required: 


Required Skills:

  • Circuit design, both analog and digital. Experience designing circuits from scratch as well as understanding and modifying existing circuit designs. Experience with fabrication and testing.
  • Rapid prototyping experience (e.g.,Rasperry Pi, Arduino)
  • Knowledge of sensors and sensor modalities, physics of sensor operation
  • Fundamental signal processing skills and data analysis (e.g., using Matlab)
  • Software development experience (e.g., C++, Java, Python)
  • Understand system level design parameters and performance impact


Preferred Skills:

  • EE Computer Aided Design software (e.g., Mentor Graphics, Altium)
  • Low size, weight, and power applications
  • RF engineering experience including designing circuit boards and antennas
  • Mechanical Engineering background to support enclosure design and related work
  • RF and electromagnetic solvers/ modeling tools (e.g., ANSYS HFSS)
