Application Development Team Manager/Team Lead

We are seeking an experienced Application Development Team Manager/Team Lead to lead a team of 8 developers and 1 QA specialist, responsible for managing and enhancing a wide array of web applications, e-forms, database systems, and standalone applications. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical leadership experience and expertise in technologies such as WebSphere, WebSphere Portal, Java applications, Web Services, Oracle Apex, Python, and RESTful APIs. In this role, you will be instrumental in building and executing a strategy to modernize our application stack, consolidating redundant systems, and executing technology roadmaps.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Team Management:
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of 8 developers and 1 QA personnel
- Provide technical guidance and hands-on support as needed, ensuring the team adheres to best practices in software development and project delivery
- Build a collaborative team environment where each member is motivated to contribute to the team’s success
- Project Management:
- Oversee the development, enhancement, and maintenance of web applications, e-forms, database applications, and standalone applications
- Ensure timely project execution, working collaboratively with other IT leaders, business stakeholders, and management.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure efficient implementation of upgrades and new features across platforms
- Technical Expertise & Innovation:
- Lead initiatives to rationalize the existing application stack, ensuring the adoption of the latest technologies and approaches where feasible
- Review and consolidate applications where necessary to improve efficiency, reduce complexity, and optimize system performance
- Stay updated with emerging technologies to propose enhancements and innovations in the current system architecture
- Training & Development:
- Provide technical training and mentoring to team members, ensuring they are updated on the latest technologies and best practices
- Develop backup plans for critical applications by cross-training resources, ensuring minimal disruption in case of emergencies
- Vendor Management & Collaboration:
- Manage relationships with external vendors as needed, ensuring clear communication and alignment on project goals and deliverables
- Evaluate vendor performance and maintain strong relationships to support application development and maintenance
- Collaboration & Peer Relationships:
- Maintain strong working relationships with other department leads, ensuring that there is alignment between teams on the organization’s technology vision
- Actively collaborate with IT and business units to understand requirements and priorities, translating them into actionable development plans
- Continuous Improvement:
- Work closely with senior management to execute plans for upgrades, patches, and regular maintenance of existing applications, ensuring the highest standards of security and performance
- Drive continuous improvement efforts by identifying areas for process improvements, streamlining development workflows, and adopting automation tools when applicable
Required Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 4-7+ years of experience in a technical leadership or management role, leading teams in application development
- Technical Skills:
- Strong experience with WebSphere, WebSphere Portal, Java applications, Web Services, Oracle Apex, Python, and RESTful APIs
- Will work with Release team on release management, and oversee development code repository for code maintenance and standard
- Familiarity with database systems and related technologies is essential
- Experience in modernizing and optimizing application stacks
- Project Management: Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, delivering high-quality results on time
- Leadership: Strong leadership and team management skills, with a focus on collaboration and mentorship
- Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
Desired Qualifications:
- Vendor Management: Experience in managing relationships with vendors is a plus, although not required
- Industry Knowledge: Experience working in a fast-paced IT department is preferred
- Certifications: Relevant certifications such as PMP, ITIL, or certifications related to Java, WebSphere, or Oracle Apex are a plus
THIS POSITION WILL BE HYBRID. THE CANDIDATE DOES NEED TO BE WITHIN 100 MILES OF THE LAB AND HAS TO COME IN AT LEAST ONCE OR TWICE PER WEEK.
