Job Description
The Facility Service Department’s (FSD) engineering team is a full-service A/E consulting style team knowledgeable in all aspects of building design and building/regulatory codes. We provide architecture and engineering assessments, design drawings, bid documents and construction administration for a wide variety of projects from small renovations to complete laboratories, clean rooms, etc. across our campus.
Working in a multi-disciplinary team environment, the Architect will assist in coordination of long and short-term facilities architecture/engineering and planning goals. Primary functions include planning support/programmatic development based on end user requirements, architectural design from concept, design (schematic phase through construction documentation), bid support, construction administration, and project closeout for multiple types of projects including office, secure areas, lab, cleanroom and other applications in and R&D environment.
Responsibilities
- Customer/end user coordination to develop scope (program SOW/BOD, and provide necessary presentation materials for end user approval.
- Inspects space for existing conditions and makes recommendations for needed improvements.
- Project scoping and cost estimate review
- Prepares and develops space plans and SD/DD/CD documents using AutoCAD and REVIT in support of existing facility conditions and new space requirements.
- Develops and executes written documentation necessary for client and management approvals.
- Perform Building Code reviews/assessments, prepare project contract specifications, and other tasks associated with project design execution.
- Construction administration including bid support, RFIs, submittal reviews, and closeout
- Perform studies and other duties as assigned to support the Facilities Services Department as needed.
- Assist in the review of design packages submitted by outside design firms to ensure adherence to project scope and internal standards of design and construction.
- Collaborate with the Facilities Architectural team to develop and maintain Architectural design, construction, and finish standards for the laboratory campus (details, AutoCAD/REVIT families, specifications, etc.).
- Coordinate with in-house SMEs (security, ISD, Operations, etc.) to inform design development.
Experience /Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, plus minimum 10 years of related work experience.
- Licensed as a Registered Architect in Massachusetts (or ability to obtain Massachusetts license within 1 year).
- Experience in a Research/Laboratory & Office renovations working with aging infrastructure and occupied spaces is more desirable than new building project work.
- Proficient working knowledge of and experience with implementation of building codes and regulatory requirements (IBC, NFPA, ADA, MA State) required.
- Working knowledge of government design standards (Unified Facilities Criteria - UFC), and experience with government facility design (secure areas, etc.) is considered highly advantageous.
- Experience with AutoCAD and REVIT for drawing production, Bluebeam/Adobe and Office product suite required.
- Proficient in communication and leadership skills, customer service and have the ability to coordinate multiple projects of varying project size.
- Clear writing and verbal presentation skills to create detailed project scope/program descriptions, assessments and code reviews.
- Skill in graphic presentation, including use of architectural design, graphic and photographic software applications (Enscape, Google Sketchup, etc.) is desirable.
- US Citizen and ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance required.
- Experience coordinating with design team staff, providing oversight and direction on project deliverables.
- Experience with Construction Administration procedures within a multi discipline team environment as point of contact, team lead and use of appropriate software (Procore).
Hiring Range: $83,000 $110,000
Job Grade: ADM-IC3
