Company: MIT Lincoln Laboratory

The Advanced Lasercom Systems and Operations Group design, prototype, analyze, and test laser communications systems suitable for a variety of government platforms. Our research team develops techniques to mitigate fluctuations in signal power caused by turbulence and to lessen wavefront distortions. We perform atmospheric modeling and simulation, and build accurate acquisition, tracking, and pointing subsystems to support highly directional, low-probability-of-intercept communication links. Our major efforts include the demonstration of a low-cost, high-performance airborne laser communications terminal and development of a test capability to ensure interoperability among terminals.

Job Description:

The Advanced Lasercom Systems and Operations Group seeks a full time Staff member to perform a variety of analysis-related tasks, which may include:

  • Working collaboratively with engineers to develop understanding and intuition of system or subsystem performance, for design/performance optimization or troubleshooting
  • Performing or contributing to system trade studies, providing analysis and developing recommendations / requirements to shape architectural development and system design
  • Assessing, maintaining, and improving the Group’s analysis toolkits thru the use of different program languages like matlab, python, C/C++
  • Assisting in new concept development, and providing the analysis / simulations to prove out and understand limitations of concepts
  • Documenting, communicating (oral and written), and generating visualizations of results
  • The candidate should be highly motivated and proactive, working closely with a small dynamic team, solving challenging problems with direct benefit to the US Government.
  • The candidate should be motivated to learn and understand the systems being modeled/tested, in addition to performing data analysis and visualization.
