The Human Health & Performance Systems Group develops human-centered technologies to overcome
operational challenges and to enhance human capability in domains of interest to national security. Our
research programs focus on innovative and objective solutions in the areas of integrated wearable systems,
human-machine teaming, enhanced communications, neurocognitive analytics, and medical technologies. Our
group is highly interdisciplinary and includes scientific experts in physiology, cognitive science, neuroscience,
psychology, biomechanics, computer science, engineering, and physics. Our core technical competencies
include system-level modeling and gap analysis, advanced sensing and signal processing, machine learning
and artificial intelligence, computational modeling, hardware and software prototyping, model-based systems
engineering, and human data collection in laboratory and field environments.

Job Description


The Human Health & Performance Systems Group is searching for a candidate to support the important human-systems integration aspects of many projects related to detecting, monitoring, and rehabilitating psychological, neurological and sensory (e.g., auditory, visual, vestibular) disorders, neurotrauma, and cognitive overload and fatigue. This human systems integration work could include initial system development analysis, such as elicitation of user information, formalizing this information in the form of workflow analyses & personas, and translating this information into technology development requirements.  Other human systems integration work could include performing fieldwork to aid in the evaluation of technologies, creating technology evaluation plans, developing human-subjects institutional review board materials, and integrating the resulting information into analyses and technology development prioritizations.   



  • Bachelors or Master’s degree in Human Factors, Human Systems Integration, Industrial/Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, or a similar scientific or technical field. 
  • Previous work in human systems integration and systems engineering will be required for this position. 
  • Additional Skills: Though not required, please highlight on your resume/CV or cover letter if you have previous experience in one or more of these additional technical areas. 
    • Neuroscience - modeling of neuro-motor and sensory systems (e.g., speech, vision) 
    • Computer Science - interface design and development  
    • Data Science - statistical modeling and machine learning 
    • Psychology – cognitive, perceptual, or clinical psychology 
    • Human Subject Research - applied human subjects data collections 
    • Engineering development teams - communicating within an interdisciplinary team 
    • Programming – MATLAB, Python, C++, R, scikit-learn, PyTorch, Tensorflow
