The nation’s satellites perform important civil, scientific, and national defense functions such as navigation, communications, weather forecasting, astronomical observations, and surveillance. As space becomes increasingly congested and contested, maintaining awareness of all man‐made objects around the Earth is critical for ensuring the safe and effective operation of U.S. satellites. Our researchers are collecting data from a global network of ground‐based and space‐based sensors to help both military and civil organizations track objects in space, monitor potential threats, and protect critical national assets. We leverage advanced data processing capabilities that rapidly ingest observations from the Space Surveillance Network and integrate that data to generate an accurate picture of the space environment around the Earth and to make predictions about evolving activity in space. We work closely with organizations such as the United States Space Force in order to maintain situational awareness in the space domain and to respond to rapidly changing events in space.
Job Description
Group 93, Information Integration and Decision Support, is seeking an experienced Associate Staff member to serve on our Space Test Range team as a Test Planning and Assessment Lead for our support to STARCOM Delta 12. This is a Colorado Field Site role and will involve being directly embedded with Delta 12 Test and Evaluation Squadrons (TESs) on Schriever SFB.
Group 93 is working to solve challenging technical problems for some of the nation’s newest and most dynamic military organizations: US Space Force and US Space Command. The group’s overarching goal is to ensure that the US has the most accurate and comprehensive picture of the space domain and a thorough understanding of the capabilities and limitations of US space warfighting capabilities.
The Space Test Range program contributes to this by working with a variety of operations and test teams to assess the survivability and effectiveness of US space systems and cross-domain architectures. The Test Planning Lead will work directly with Test and Evaluation Squadrons to scope, define, and execute test activity critical to our nation’s development of Space Control capabilities. Acting as a liaison between Delta 12 and Lincoln Laboratory will be a key aspect of this role, facilitating reach back to Lexington staff members in order to provide rigorous technical support and sensor/C2 expertise to the TESs.
Major Responsibilities
- Project management
- Lead the planning and execution of test event on behalf of STARCOM
- Help define assessment criteria for test events and test data
- Facilitate alignment between Delta 12 test objectives and Delta 11 test infrastructure
- Coordinate test activities of a team than spans Colorado and Lexington, with technical staff and sensor operators
- Build strong relationships with sponsors through frequent interactions, briefings and reporting.
- Technical expertise
- Knowledge of SSN sensors and capabilities, to include Lincoln space surveillance sensors
- Ability to produce comprehensive, technically rigorous Test Planning documents for use by a heterogenous team of laboratory staff, military personnel, and contractors
- Ability to identify and articulate TES technical support needs to laboratory staff, and to facilitate timely delivery of high-quality products to enable TES decisions and to support Delta 12 decisional meetings
Required Qualifications
- MS degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or related degree; BS candidates with additional related experience will be considered.
- Technical excellence in an applicable field, as evidenced by written publications, technology and program development, and broad notoriety in a Group mission area.
- Experience with several of the following: space surveillance sensors and data processing, classified US space activities, foreign threats to US space systems, test planning and execution
- Strong test coordination / test execution skills and ability to produce high-quality, impactful, polished briefings
- Experience interacting with Government sponsors
- Ability to obtain and maintain TS and SCI clearances required
