Job Summary

The Associate Technology Officer (ATO) supports the development and coordination of the Laboratory’s overall strategy for technology development, helps coordinate and manage the Laboratory’s internal R&D investments (Line, TI, ACC, Seedlings), and develops and implements initiatives to promote innovative R&D across the Laboratory’s diverse mission areas (ex. challenges, technical interchanges, seminars, etc). This role also provides broad exposure to Lab-wide and MIT campus activities, as well as the opportunity to focus on particular areas of interest.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:
 

  • Support and assist in the implementation of plans, policies, processes and resources for achieving the Laboratory's, strategic technology vision,
  • Support and assist in the management of the Laboratory’s annual Department of Defense – funded internal research and development investments and project portfolio.
  • Support and assist in management / tracking of internal investments for technical infrastructure and for strategic technology investments for current and future Laboratory mission areas.
  • Participate in the development of long-range, Laboratory-wide technology road maps and investment strategies that are coupled to the evolving needs of U.S. national security and the Laboratory's strategic sponsors.  

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in a science, technology, engineering or mathematical (STEM) field with 7 or more years working in a technology field preferred; or Bachelor’s degree in STEM field with 10 or more years working in a technology field
  • Some research experience, including collaborations with university partners, and project leadership experience is desired
  • Knowledge in several of the following technology areas: advanced materials and processes, microelectronic devices, computing hardware and software, optical systems, RF systems, cyber systems, artificial intelligence, decision systems, autonomous systems, and biotechnology; a willingness to acquire a deeper understanding of all of these areas.  Experience working cross-disciplinary programs across several of these technology areas is desired.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills; strong organizational, collaboration and project leadership skills
