The Business/Systems Analyst - Finance Team Lead will study the financial business and information needs of the Laboratory as a whole as well as individual customer groups to develop and support information systems solutions. As the key liaison between the business areas and the Information Services Department, the Finance Team Lead is responsible for identifying and defining emerging requirements, issues and gaps, and monitoring ongoing operational performance of SAP and non-SAP applications. The Finance Team Lead will collaborate with business stakeholders to document business requirements for approved projects and operational improvements, translate them into functional system design specifications that can be successfully executed in a manner that consistently meets or exceeds business and user requirements. They will then manage the development and implementation of solutions and processes that address business requirements and are in line with Lincoln Laboratory standards.
The Finance Team Lead will assist the Sector Manager in prioritizing the goals and work of the Enterprise Applications Finance Team in line with overall Enterprise Applications and ISD Goals. The Finance Team Lead will manage staffing of assigned projects to ensure timely delivery and provide direct supervision, coaching and career guidance to assigned subordinates in compliance with established MIT-LL policies.
Primary Duties
Financial Systems Support and Continuous Improvement
- Maintains close communication with stakeholders in the Financial Services Department to identify emerging operational changes, external business changes, and new reporting requirements. Acts as an advocate for stakeholders and communicates the business and technical requirements to ISD for integration into overall planning
- Collaborates with business stakeholders to proactively identify process reengineering and continuous improvement opportunities across the end-to-end business process
- Maintains a high level of proficiency and current knowledge of assigned applications including SAP Finance and Controlling functions, non-SAP applications and awareness of non-Financial applications
- Communicates the potential impacts of Finance and Controlling related changes on other integrated business processes and ensures end-to-end processes are fully evaluated and tested inclusive of end user reporting
- Monitors the health of critical interfaces between SAP and multiple SaaS products
- Maintains advanced proficiency of SAP Finance and Controlling master data, transaction data and table structures to support reporting, specification development and troubleshooting
- Maintains an understanding of Lincoln Laboratory’s financial reporting requirements within the core SAP S4 system and the Data Warehouse including the data extractors for the reporting system. Identifies technical and process changes that will require reporting changes
- Manages assigned projects by applying project management skills, coordinating and assigning appropriate resources, establishing project priorities and timelines and coordinating activities of resources across ISD and business teams
- Reviews / analyzes business and functional requirements submitted by analysts and business users for completeness and incorporation of all necessary information and potential integration considerations. Coaches analysts in development of complete, concise business and functional requirements
- Monitors assigned applications to identify operational issues and potential continuous improvements to existing business processes and related information systems and prepares solutions to address these issues
- Provides continuing opportunities for assigned employees to develop and expand individual skills through coaching, mentoring, challenging / varied work assignments, career guidance and development of training plans
- Supports assigned staff or performs complex troubleshooting and analysis for issue correction, root cause determination and to identify continuous improvement opportunities
Systems Upgrade and Implementation
- Ensures testing plans and test cases for new implementations and enhancements fully test business and functional requirements, as well as Laboratory requirements and data standards
- In collaboration with the LL Financial Services Department, designs and maintains a set of regression test scenarios/scripts, manages testing, and coordinates business participation in regression testing
- Ensures all testing results are complete, accurately recorded and properly documented. Coordinates business approval before changes are implemented in the Production environment
- Identifies and documents impacts to end user processes and any required mitigations resulting from implementation of system updates or upgrades
Communication, Collaboration and Training
- Documents and communicates scope, timelines, status, risks and schedule changes for ongoing work and design changes to IT and Business
- Collaborates across teams to ensure standard system functionality is identified and used in all relevant situations
- Ensures that documentation is developed, published, and maintained according to department standards
- Collaborates with ISD Training Team to ensure broad participation in testing, and that training and user documentation for assigned applications are properly maintained
Business Planning
- Assists in planning and in setting priorities for the Enterprise Applications Service Management Sector in collaboration with the other Team Leads and the Sector Manager
- Performs a variety of tasks and may direct the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected
- This position is under the general supervision of an Enterprise Applications Service Management Sector Manager
- This position routinely interacts with MIT-LL users
- This position routinely interacts with other sectors within ISD
- This position interacts frequently with vendors to keep abreast of roadmaps and directions
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of seven years of experience OR a master's degree and a minimum five years of experience
- 10+ years of SAP FI/CO technical experience in requirements gathering, deployment and support. Preferably this would include leadership of multiple implementations / upgrades
- 10+ years of experience with SAP ERP business processes design, implementation and support
- Extensive knowledge of SAP FI/CO processes and capabilities. Understanding and broad application of technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques
- Experience in providing specifications and guiding development of enhancements to SAP applications
- Ability to work independently under limited supervision. Demonstrated experience in determining objectives of assignment
- Ability to provide direct supervision, coaching and goal setting for subordinates and members of project teams
- Project management skills to succeed in matrixed environment
- Ability to work analytically in a problem-solving environment
- Skill in analyzing process and data flows
- Skill in requirements collection and analysis to identify needs
- Working knowledge of the software lifecycle and methodologies
- Knowledge of stakeholder analysis and skill in building consensus among stakeholders and colleagues

Preferred
- Working knowledge of other SAP ERP related modules and their integration
- Working knowledge of SAP BW and Business Objects reporting
- Working knowledge of change management tools for software life cycle development
- Experience in providing specifications and guiding development of enhancements to non-SAP applications
