Position Description
The Classified Systems Administrator will demonstrate expert level hands-on knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory and VMware vSphere while supporting the Laboratory’s enterprise classified computing infrastructure. This position will be part of a team that is responsible for maintaining the team’s Windows imaging platform as well as its Windows software deployment infrastructure. This individual will be expected to stay current on these technologies, be engaged with Laboratory staff and make recommendations to enhance these services.
As part of this role, the individual will need to demonstrate proficiency with the underlying processes and components that support these technologies. These would include but are not limited to DNS, DHCP, NPS, group policies, WSUS, VMware distributed switching and creating VM templates. The ideal candidate will also possess advanced knowledge of Powershell, PowerCLI, STIGs (full and benchmark), DISA’s SCC Tool and STIG Viewer and how to evaluate systems for STIG compliance.
Candidates with a background in VMware vSAN, NetApp and/or Solarwinds will be given preference.
This position is 100% dedicated to supporting classified environments.
This position is under general supervision of the Classified Enterprise Services Team Lead
This position does not have direct financial responsibility. However technical expertise may be required for assisting with product selection and annual product support renewals.
This position will maintain frequent contact with internal department and/or Laboratory user community as well as external vendors to maintain communications related to problem resolution, systems upgrades, services and product research.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s of Computer Science or relevant technical field of study
- Possess and maintain expert technical depth with the following technologies:
-Windows 10
-Windows Server
-Active Directory
- Ability to work independently toward delivery of goals as well as collaborate in team efforts
- Excellent customer service skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong understanding of VMware infrastructure (vCenter, ESXi, vSAN, etc.)
- Strong overall network skills (e.g. routing, switching and TCP/IP protocol)
- Demonstrate the ability to learn new technologies and disciplines quickly
- At least a secret level security clearance and the ability to obtain a top secret within 6 months employment
- Security+ certification or the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment

- Scripting experience as well as experience with task automation
- 6+ years’ experience in the information technology field
- 3+ years’ experience specifically with supporting Windows imaging, software deployment and unified communications
Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.
Occasional off-hour/on-call support is necessary. A certain degree of flexibility of schedule is required as some work (planned/unplanned) must be done outside of major production hours during pre-scheduled maintenance windows.
This position requires and individual with excellent communication (both oral and writing) and organizational skills. The individual must be able to work in a fast-paced environment at times with minimal supervision and execute operations, project and administrative tasks with a high degree of quality, while following existing protocols.

- Support and maintain Windows Server and Active Directory infrastructure
- Support and maintain VMware vCenter, ESXi and vSAN infrastructure
- Develop and maintain STIG compliant Windows workstation and server images
- Deploy new Windows workstations and servers as needed
- Research processes and technologies that enhance the performance of the Windows imaging and software deployment infrastructure
- Monitor and adjust configurations to maintain STIG compliance for Windows Servers and Active Directory
- Participate in projects as needed where Windows experience is required
- Assist in developing roadmaps for hardware and software life cycles

- Research and develop process and procedure enhancements
- Research processes and technologies that enhance the performance of the environment
- Participate in projects as needed where unified communications experience is required
- Assist in developing roadmaps for hardware and software life cycles
10%
- Provide 1st tier technical support as needed in support of the Laboratory community. This would include taking shifts in the classified hubs to provide assistance with password resets and other end user issues as well as working tickets and assisting users as needed.
