The mission of the AI Software Architectures & Algorithms Group is to lead the nation in exploring and applying Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to meet critical national security needs. Our focus areas include counter terrorism, counter human-trafficking, humanitarian assistance and disaster response, and protection of the global commons and our homeland. In collaboration with industry and academia, we develop prototypes at the frontiers of AI for the land, sea, air, and space domains.

 

Our technology applications range from using AI to augment human capability to enabling autonomous operations. Close-knit research teams, enabled by access to large amounts of data, work collaboratively to expand our understanding of relevant operational data sets and workflows. Our objective is to make a positive difference for analysts, military commanders, and boots-on-the-ground responders. Access to on-premise supercomputing and public/private clouds provides ample opportunities to do research and development at scale.

 

The candidate will assist staff in development activities supporting engineers and scientists in day to day tasks, including research, and implementation, and work as part of a larger team to learn and assist with AI applications development, debugging, and integration in Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) tool chains.

 

Candidates must be detail oriented, able to multi-task, work with minimal supervision and work well with staff and management. Strong problem solving skills will be required to come up with innovative solutions to challenging problems.

 

Job Description

 

Essential Requirements:

 

  • Must be a student currently enrolled in the pursuit of an undergraduate (BA/BS/BE) degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, or similar scientific discipline
  • Confident Python coder
  • Exposure to Linux or command line operating systems
  • Experience with Git, and issue tracking tools
  • Excellent time management and an interest in developing AI and Machine Learning applications 
  • An ideal candidate will have one or more of the following:
  • Prior exposure to AI and ML toolkits such as PyTorch and Tensorflow
  • Basic understanding of VMware and/or AWS
  • Basic understanding of Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery methodology such as Jenkins
  • Experience with Agile software development principles
  • Interest in learning about common open-source application stacks (e.g., for web services, big data, and Machine Learning)
  • Interest in learning about deployment and management of containerized applications
  • Preferred GPA 3.2 or higher
