Group 76 - Control & Autonomous Systems Engineering - Summer Research Program Intern

The Control & Autonomous Systems Engineering Group applies state estimation, feedback control, and machine learning / artificial intelligence technology to the development of advanced software- and hardware-centric systems. We work in multi-disciplinary teams to envision and create complex demonstration prototypes (primarily unmanned) and innovative solutions to solve challenging national security problems. Applications span a diverse array of operational domains and mission areas, such as space control, missile defense, communications, and homeland protection. The group frequently supports all phases of project development, from concept generation and analysis, through foundational research and realization in embedded hardware, to system integration and validation.

Job Description

Under the direction of MIT Lincoln Laboratory technical staff, the summer intern will participate in various aspects of software, firmware, and electrical development for a space payload. This will focus on the application of Model Based Design (MBD) workflows to implement, deploy, and test software and electrical systems. The MBD workflows leverage Matlab/Simulink tools. Examples may include developing test infrastructure for hardware-in-the-loop prototyping and testing of real-time embedded systems, modeling of analog circuits, and/or design and verification of FPGA firmware to be flown.

The successful candidate will be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in a relevant field such as Electrical, Mechanical or Robotics Engineering or Physics, Computer Science, or Applied Mathematics. A successful experience is supported by a desire to learn new things and asking questions. Hands-on research experience or course work with software/firmware development, controls, and/or electrical systems is desired.

Selected candidate will be subject to a pre-employment background investigation and must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret level DoD security clearance.
