Group 93: Summer Research Program Intern (Space Systems and Technology)

Date: Oct 28, 2024

Location: Lexington, MA, US

Company: MIT Lincoln Laboratory

Satellites are the unsung heroes of modern age, performing critical functions such as navigation, communications, missile warning, weather forecasting, and surveillance. As space becomes increasingly congested and contested, our national security depends on maintaining awareness of the location, activity, capability and intent of objects in space. The Information Integration and Decision Support Group supports the defense of US satellites against present and future threats by enhancing our awareness of the space domain. We do this by operating state of the art sensors, developing advanced algorithms and software prototypes, conducting studies, and engaging directly with space operators to understand their needs. Our team of researchers have diverse expertise in a wide range of fields from software development, data science, AI/MI, satellite and sensor operations, and astrodynamics. They have access to near-real time data from our own sensors as well as the US global network of ground-based and space-based sensors. Our group’s work has broad impact by: enabling the safe operation of actual satellites, developing and demonstrating novel capabilities, and informing senior government leaders.
