The Advanced Quantum Technologies Group focuses on accelerating quantum computing and sensing with ion and solid-state systems. Core areas of the Group include fundamental quantum science guiding next generation advances, quantum devices (ion computing testbeds, precision clocks, magnetometers, and other quantum sensors), and quantum systems such as magnetic assisted navigation and quantum microscopes for supply chain security.

Job Description

The Advanced Quantum Technologies Group is seeking a Systems Administrator for classified and unclassified networks of multiple Operating System platforms with Windows, Mac, and UNIX proficiency. 

Major Responsibilities

  • In consultation with the staff, specify, implement, test network and computer system configurations; perform upgrades across multiple platforms.
  • Implement security and measures in accordance with government and Laboratory policies.
  • Identify system performance issues and user needs to recommend specific changes and upgrades.
  • Perform data backups and recoveries.
  • Assist staff with computer and network problems and tasks.
  • Research and recommend commercial hardware and software products to meet project and group requirements.
  • Renew software licenses to ensure continuity of service.
  • Interact with vendors, Security, laboratory personnel, and other system administrators to coordinate procurements, installations, upgrades, and other services.

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. in Information Technology or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4+ years of experience administering computer systems and networks.
  • Works somewhat independently under limited supervision.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and networking problems.
  • Must be team-oriented, be able to create documentation on systems to satisfy certification, technical staff, and end users. 
  • Experience with desktop level hardware and software applications like Office, Adobe, Trelix, OS Imaging (i.e. kickstart or Microsoft Deployment Toolkit), BitLocker and LUKS. 

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with security plans, procedures, and compliance with DoD Mandate 8140.
  • Work experience in mission critical environments.
  • Working knowledge of programming languages such as perl, python, C/C++, and scripting language.
