Position Description

 

Reporting directly to the Director of Government Contracts and Compliance, the Legal Agreements Assistant is responsible for preparing, drafting, and aiding in the execution of legal agreements and activities to include Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDA), bailment agreements, and other legal agreements covering topics including intellectual property rights, data rights, software licenses, patent reporting and technology transfer. The position will assist the Legal Agreements Officer in support of the prime contract, other non-prime contracts, and subcontracting functions, and may assist with interface with the Laboratory Technology Ventures Office (TVO) and MIT’s Technology Licensing Office (TLO). The position may also assist with legal support related to administration of the Prime Contract with the Air Force as well as oversight and management of the Laboratory’s Human Subject Research (HSR) compliance activities.

 

Position requires a strong knowledge of intellectual property and contracting law.  Position requires a basic working knowledge of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and Defense FAR Supplement (DFARS) and other relevant statutes and regulations. Requires a basic understanding of technology transfer involving government, educational institutions, and industry.  Must be detail-oriented, well organized, and a skilled multi-tasker that can work independently.  Strong customer service skills and ability to work effectively with all levels of staff and senior management are important.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Assist with guidance and support to Laboratory technical staff and senior management related to a diverse set of legal agreements
  • Serve as the Point of Contact for NDAs
  • Assist with HSR oversight and compliance
  • Serve as Point of Contact on bailment agreements and assist in facilitating the transfer of government property and required documentation
  • Assist with support to CSD on a wide range of legal issues required to establish and articulate Laboratory positions in discussions and negotiations with Air Force officials
  • Interface with various departments within MIT such as the Laboratory’s TVO, MIT’s TLO, and the Office of General Counsel as required

 

Requirements

 

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Paralegal certificate preferred  
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a paralegal
  • Minimum 1 year of experience with intellectual property law and/or technology transfer
  • Working knowledge of federal Government procurement statutes and regulations is preferred
  • Experience preparing and drafting legal agreements is preferred
  • Demonstrated capabilities in written and oral communication are required
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Government security clearance required
