The Electronics for Contested Space Group develops RF and advanced electronic systems for space control missions and technology in the protection of our Nation’s most important space capabilities. This work includes the design and development of state-of-the-art satellites and satellite payloads, novel concepts for resilient space architectures, and the Nation’s most sensitive radars, optics, and passive RF systems. Our group also collaborates across the Laboratory to provide engineering rigor and experience to some of the most critical Laboratory programs. Examples of recent projects include the prototyping of electronic systems and effects, hardware-in-the-loop testing of tactically-relevant payloads with surrogate threat systems, and RF subsystem development for satellites.
Job Description
An individual who assists in laboratory, research, or analytical work under direction or supervision of scientific
personnel. Operates highly technical experimental apparatus. May direct and train technicians of lower grade. Has
understanding of the theoretical aspects of the experiments. Has demonstrated outstanding skill and performance in the
particular field of activity. Requires little or no supervision.
Group 94, Electronics for Contested Space, is seeking a Technician to work on the prototyping and development of advanced electronics and space payloads and subsystems. Activities will include the fabrication, assembly, integration, and test of RF and electronic hardware from schematics and mechanical drawings. Job functions may also include operation of technical equipment including laboratory and field data collection under the supervision of scientific personnel. Responsibilities will include assembly of multi-conductor and RF cables, building small electronic assemblies, mechanical/electrical assembly including wiring of devices into chassis assemblies, and soldering and de-soldering of boards and terminals.
Requirements
- Graduation from a two year day technical school or its equivalent and a minimum of five years of applicable experience are required.
- Demonstrated ability to interact with others respectfully and develop productive working relationships.
- Ability to work effectively for periods of time without supervision.
- Ability to lift light-to-moderate equipment (up to 60 pounds).
- Occasional travel to field sites may be required.
- Clean room assembly experience and experience working with, or certifications in military and space environmental standards are all pluses.
