The Energy Systems Group is part of the Homeland Protection Division (https://www.ll.mit.edu/r-d/homeland-protection) and focuses on assisting the Departments of Defense and Homeland Security in securing the nation from energy-related threats (https://www.ll.mit.edu/r-d/homeland-protection/energy-systems). Our group works on diverse programs including domestic and tactical military base energy resilience, microgrids - energy systems that can operate independently from the bulk electric grid, cyber security of control systems that interface with energy systems, and development of advanced energy technologies. The group leads systems analysis efforts focusing on the gaps between infrastructure and operational requirements, executes live exercises for testing energy and cyber resilience posture, fields functional prototypes, and builds hardware-in-the-loop and real-time simulation testbeds. Projects are conducted in an intimate and small team environment, leveraging expertise from within Lincoln Laboratory to successfully execute nationally important and cutting-edge efforts.

 

Job Description

 

Our group is seeking highly motivated individuals to support software design, implementation, test and deployment activities within a rapid prototyping environment. The candidate will work across different technical areas in a dynamic team-oriented development environment and will likely support multiple projects at one time.  The position requires interfacing with both standard and proprietary hardware as well as contributing to the development of new algorithms based on statistical modelling and machine learning techniques. The candidate will be expected to assess the operational feasibility of their approaches through analysis and should be well organized, self-driven, creative, and detail-oriented. Documentation and presentation of new work is required throughout the life-cycle of development efforts and may include the generation of flowcharts, diagrams, slides, and code comments.

 

Requirments

 

  • B.A/B.S computer science, computer engineering, or a related technical discipline
  • Proficiency in Python
  • Working knowledge of C or C++
  • Familiarity with basic machine learning processing and optimization techniques
  • Working knowledge of basic scripting languages (PowerShell, Bash, Perl, etc.)
  • Basic knowledge of the Windows and Linux operating systems
  • Basic understanding of statistical models and algorithms
  • Effective written and oral communications skills in technical environments 

Desired Skills

 

  • Experience with the risk management framework process (RMF) or related cybersecurity risk management process
  • Experience developing and deploying cloud-based software (AWS, Azure, etc.)
  • Development and utilization of continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) architectures
  • Experience creating, querying and optimizing databases 
  • Experience with the Go programming language
  • Interest or experience working with and enhancing critical infrastructure
