We analyze cyber capabilities and missions, develop advanced technology, and prototype software that cyber operators use to protect our nation’s most critical systems. Our researchers and engineers pioneer next-generation security architectures, enable effective decision making by cyber operators, and integrate cyber operations with other critical missions to create a holistic approach to national defense.
Projects are carried out by small, focused, cooperative teams that succeed together by participating in all phases of technical solution development, including systems analysis, innovative solution design, system architecture, solution prototyping and field-testing, and final technology transfer to Department of Defense (DoD) and Intelligence Community (IC) sponsors or industry. The group comprises computer scientists, mathematicians, machine learning researchers and practitioners, system analysts, software developers and security architects who firmly believe we can improve the security of the nation.
Position Description
As a software solution architect/engineer in the Cyber Operations and Analysis Technology group, you'll be developing software architecture solutions leveraged by both MIT Lincoln Laboratory Cyber Researchers and our U.S government sponsors. A growing need in the group is the integration of the latest DevSecOps technology and cloud platforms to meet the unique needs of our sponsors in an efficient and secure way. You will help advise and drive those decisions as well as experiment with the latest technology in the software architecture and engineering space. You will communicate your work to domain and non-domain experts through your writing, presentations, and training sessions.
Requirements
- Experience and education applicable to the role:
- MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Security and at least 4+ years of directly related experience or
- BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Security and 8+ years of directly related experience or
- 12 years of related experience and any degree
Desired Technical Skills (Some use, including in classwork, of many of these technologies):

- Programming Languages (Java, Python, Scala, Go)

- Infrastructure/Container Provisioning/Orchestration Systems (Ansible, Kubernetes, Docker/containerd/podman)
- Kubernetes Distributions (k3s, RKE2, Talos, TKG)
- IaC and Control Plane Management (Crossplane, Cluster API, Terraform, Pulumi)
- Continuous Integration (GitLab CI, Tekton, Argo Workflows)
- Secure Software Supply Chain Concepts (sigstore, trivy)
- GitOps (Flux CD, Argo CD)
- Service Mesh (Istio, LinkerD)
- Ingress / API Gateways (Traefik, Istio IngressGateway, Kong)
- Cloud Service Providers (AWS, Azure, GCP, Equinix Metal)
- Desired Certifications: Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD), Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist (CKS)
Experience desired in relevant security areas:
- Network Protocol Analysis (Wireshark, Tcpdump)
- Network Firewalling and Filtering (iptables, nftables, eBPF)
- Network Tunneling Protocols (WireGuard, IPsec, GRE, VXLAN)
- Network, Host, Container Security Products (ACAS, Prisma/Twistlock, NeuVector, Anchore, Kubescape)
