Job Description

An individual who assists in laboratory, research, or analytical work under direction or supervision of scientific personnel. Operates highly technical experimental apparatus. May direct and train technicians of lower grade. Has understanding of the theoretical aspects of the experiments. Has demonstrated outstanding skill and performance in the particular field of activity. Requires little or no supervision.

 

Candidate will work in the class 100 clean room of Lincoln Lab’s Compound Semiconductor Lab (CSL) supporting a broad range of activities of the Advanced Technology Division including the development of integrated photonic devices, lasers, detectors, sensor devices, and micro-mechanical devices.  Primary responsibility will be to perform corrective and preventive maintenance of highly complex semiconductor fabrication equipment. The candidate will ensure a high level of equipment availability, stability and reliability in support of Program work. Candidate will also help maintain several lab-supporting systems such as high purity water, hydrogen generator, gas delivery systems, pumps, safety systems, etc. and will participate in new tool installations, upgrades, and the eventual transfer of tool set to a new laboratory building currently under construction. Must be able to effectively work on multiple tasks or tools simultaneously. May direct or train technicians of lower grade and requires little to no supervision.

Qualifications required of applicant

  • Education and professional experience: Graduation from a two-year technical school or its equivalent and a minimum of five years of experience repairing and maintaining semiconductor process equipment is required.

 

Experience:

  • Maintaining and repairing semiconductor process equipment such as lithography tools, thin film deposition tools (sputterers, evaporators, PEDVD), dry etch tools, other high vacuum systems, wet chemical processing, etc.  
  • At least five years of experience working with semiconductor processing equipment.
  • Experience working with high voltage, lasers, pneumatics, vacuum systems and gas delivery systems is a plus.
  • Electro-mechanical troubleshooting and performing preventative maintenance.

 

Skills:

  • Organized, detail oriented, and able to work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
  • Interpersonal skills including working within the Operations Team and interacting with lab users.
  • The ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter able to work independently.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer skills sufficient to interact with MES system, record data, etc.
  • Ability and willingness to train new or less experienced team members.
  • Reliable (Solid attendance).
