Position Description

 

The Engineering Division is seeking an energetic Systems Administrator to support research and enable novel prototype development as part of our IT team. Work with multi-disciplinary teams to implement innovative solutions to support prototyping for challenging national security problems. The ideal candidate has strong experience with Windows server and desktop configurations and be able to build, test, provision, tune, secure, troubleshoot and manage vulnerabilities. Experience with Linux and Mac OS’s is also important and the ability to serve as a front-line interface to users with technical issues. 

 

Responsibilities

 

Work independently and with research staff, systems administrators and enterprise IT members throughout the organization managing the functionality and usability of systems running on one or more operating systems. Maintain the integrity and security of servers and systems; providing and monitoring back-up recovery processes. Serve as a front-line interface to users with technical issues. 

 

Required Skills:

 

  • Demonstrated strong knowledge and experience with Windows System Administration

  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues in servers, networking and storage

  • Knowledge of network connectivity and LAN, WAN protocols and principles

  • Experience with VMWare / VDI virtualization

  • Implement administration and service accounts, maintain system documentation, tune system performance, install and maintain system-wide software and allocate mass storage space

  • License server setup, configuration, management and monitoring

  • Evaluate and make recommendations for hardware and software purchases

 

Desired Skills:

 

  • Knowledge / experience with ACAS, Security Center, WSUS, HBSS / ePO, BigFix, Splunk and other cybersecurity tools

  • Experience with Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) / Two Factor Authentication (2FA)

  • Knowledge of Linux and automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, CFEngine, CHEF

  • Writing scripts and/or using configuration management tools to automate repetitive tasks and manage complex deployments

  • Experience with cross domain systems (CDS) administration

  • Knowledge of network protocols including TCP/IP, UDP/IP, unicast/multicast, network jitter, and TCP optimization

  • Understanding of macOS operating systems

  • Engineering application management such as Solidworks, Ansys and other engineering software

  • Interacts with third-party technology vendors and internal database staff

 

Education/Training:

 

  • Must have a BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field or 5 years of related experience

  • A strong technical background to include technical training, IT/IA certifications

  • Ideal Candidate will have or be willing to obtain the following certificates:

    • Security+

    • Linux+

    • Network+

    • Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPIC)
