The Integrated Missile Defense Technology Group develops resilient, integrated missile defense solutions through threat characterization, advanced technology development, prototyping, and testing.  Our work is critical to the defense of the United States, deployed forces, and allies from missile attacks. This group performs detailed system and component engineering, flight and ground test analysis, and advanced capability development in collaboration with the contractors and government program offices that are developing the missile defense elements and components. The group seeks a Technical Staff member to lead key software architecture and software development efforts that enable the characterization of missile related activity, including tests and launches, worldwide.

 

Job Description

 

Co-lead, with an Analysis Team lead, a team of software developers focused on developing and maintaining a suite of analysis tools aimed at missile launch characterization.  The initial effort will be to learn, in-depth, the existing suite of tools as well as the mission of the analysis team.  Using this knowledge, the selected candidate will develop an architecture and roadmap for developing, updating and maintaining the suite of analysis tools. 

Requirements:

 

  • PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Applied Mathematics or a related field. In lieu of an PhD, a MS and 3 years of experience will be considered
  • Software architecture knowledge gained through education (concentration, minor or major) and/or 3-years related experience
  • Ability to propose and explore new techniques and technologies and be able to design, develop, test, and validate these new capabilities
  • Demonstrable experience in the creation of deployable software prototypes based on research using languages like Python, R, JavaScript.  
  • Ability to lead a small to medium team of software developers to execute your vision and software architecture
  • Ability to effectively communicate with external contacts, such as government sponsors and colleagues at other research institutions
  • Knowledge of DevSecOps
  • Knowledge of and experience with agile software development
  • Selected candidate will be subject to a pre-employment background investigation and must be willing and able to obtain and maintain a Secret / DoD security clearance.

Desired Knowledge:

 

  • Software architecture best practices and experience (including Zero Trust and cloud architectures)
  • Data architecture best practices and experience
  • System analysis methodology and experience
  • System, software, and/or network security
  • Knowledge of major components of cloud and virtual architecture elements
  • Knowledge of signal processing techniques, especially related to radar data processing
  • Experience or coursework in physics and/or microwave radar
