The Advanced Capabilities and Technologies Group (Group 91) researches, develops, and evaluates technologies for next-generation space systems. Current areas of interest include novel orbital constellations, deployable apertures, optical and RF imaging arrays, wide-field image acquisition and processing, feature modeling and recognition, communications networks, data visualization, and decision support. The group’s programs leverage resources from across Lincoln Lab to address critical needs for DARPA, the Air Force, the Office of the Secretary of Defense, and others. Our goal is to provide new capabilities, develop their of concepts of operation, and ensure that they are resilient to disruptive technological advances.
Job Description
Seeking a Technical Staff with a background in aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, experimental physics or a closely related field to support experiment designs and setup, hardware/software integration, laboratory measurements, and systems analysis. Working with an interdisciplinary team of engineers, physicists and software developers, this individual is expected to support multiple aspects of technology development including modeling and analysis, laboratory testing, system integration, and field data collection. Specific knowledge of or expertise in space propulsion, plasma physics, and spacecraft systems engineering are also wanted in a successful job candidate. The Technical Staff will need to be self-motivated to excel with limited oversight, while at the same time working cooperatively in a team environment. Occasional travel to field sites to participate in meetings or experiment measurement campaigns may be required.
Requirements
- PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related technical field
- 3 years of research experience
- Research experience in advanced space propulsion or plasma physics, including vacuum chamber operation, plasma measurement techniques, and data acquisition and processing
- Demonstrated ability to conceive, design, conduct, and analyze complex experiments
- Experience with software for instrumentation control (ie MATLAB, C++, LabView)
Preferred Skills
- Experience with spaceflight systems a plus, including specialized analysis skills (e.g. rarefied flow simulation with PIC or DSMC, structural and thermal analysis, etc.)
Recent Graduate Hiring Range: $145,200-$170,000
Experienced Hiring Range: $145,200-$220,000
