The Electronics for Contested Space Group develops radio-frequency (RF) and advanced electronic systems for space control missions and technology in the protection of our nation’s most important space capabilities. This work includes the design and development of state-of-the-art satellites and satellite payloads, novel concepts for resilient space architectures, and the nation’s most sensitive radars, optics, and passive RF systems. Our group also collaborates across the Laboratory to provide engineering rigor and experience to some of the most critical Laboratory programs. Examples of recent projects include the prototyping of electronic systems and effects, hardware-in-the-loop testing of tactically relevant payloads with surrogate threat systems, and RF subsystem development for satellites. 

Job Description

A systems analyst is needed to support system design, experiment planning and laboratory/field test data collection and processing. The ideal candidate is self-driven, has effective communication skills and is comfortable working as a member of an interdisciplinary team to create complete end-to-end systems.  The candidate will be expected to lead small teams and execute novel technical research. Activities may include data analysis, sensor system design, planning and execution of data collection efforts, and preparation of material for communication to sponsors. Occasional travel to support field exercises, presentations to sponsors and the community, and other events may be required.  Applicants must have significant coursework and/or research experience with demonstrated ability in systems analysis, remote sensing applications, RF systems, satellite electronics, or aerospace applications.  Broad experience in multiple technologies and applications is highly desired.


  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field.  A Master’s Degree and at least 4 years of relevant experience will be considered.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication, particularly the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to conceive, design, conduct, and analyze complex experiments  
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and team skills
  • Experience with experimental data collection and processing
  • Proficiency with MATLAB, Python, C/C++ or other scientific programming languages

Desired Skills

  • Experience with space systems and aerospace applications
  • Research experience in advanced electro-optical and electromagnetic techniques
  • Experience with System Toolkit (STK) and other aerospace tools
