The Security Services Department's overall mission is to ensure a safe and secure environment and protect MIT Lincoln Laboratory at all facilities in which staff members perform their mission of research and development. To accomplish this mission, this department formulates and implements policies, plans, and actions designed to protect facilities against threats of vandalism, accidental destruction, and sabotage; and safeguards personnel, classified and unclassified information systems, personal identifiable information, property, and other assets from exploitation and recruitment by foreign intelligence agencies.


Special Security Management Office Team Lead

Responsible for directing, coordinating, supervising, and training the Special Security Management Office (SSMO) staff. Manages routine administrative and logistical processes of special programs on behalf of the special programs manager. Ensures a high level of customer service is provided to the Laboratory community and SSRs by the SSMO. Coordinates the development and maintenance of security web applications for special programs. Communicates pertinent data, information, and insight to SSD management and ensures management is aware of critical events or incidents. Assign taskings, schedules, team organization, and workflow of the SSMO. Develop, track and monitor security initiatives and process improvements across special programs. Responsible for maintaining a high-level inspection readiness posture for centralized SSMO functions. Provides security leadership, management and oversight across special programs in the areas of personnel security, physical security, COMSEC, and security management. Responsible for managing security and compliance risk in the areas of personnel security, physical security, COMSEC, and security management as they pertain to special programs. Closely synchronizes the activities of the SSMO with Personnel Security Service Center and Investigations & Threat Assessment Office. Coordinates with government agencies to obtain rulings, interpretations, and acceptable deviations for compliance with regulations.

Receives direct supervision from the Manager and Assistant Manager, Special Programs and indirect supervision from the Assistant Department Head, Security Services Department and Chief Security Officer.

Directly and indirectly supervises Special Security Representatives and Specialists assigned to the SSMO to include Special Security Representatives levels I, II, and III, as well as attached COMSEC personnel from IT security. 


  • Bachelor's degree in Security Management or Business required, (Master's degree preferred).
  • A minimum of 5 years of related experience in industrial security to include compartmented and Special Access Programs required. A minimum of 2 years supervisory experience preferred.
  • Expertise in personnel security processes under the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM), DoD SAPs, and Intelligence Community.
  • Experience with web application development and lifecycle management is required, specifically documentation, testing, change control, and requirements analysis.
  • A Current Special Program Security Certification from the Defense Security Service, or ability to obtain certification within 2 years.
  • Candidates must possess in-depth knowledge and demonstrated experience in the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM) as well as applicable Intelligence Community Directives (ICDs), DoD SAP and SCI Manuals, DoD Guides and Instructions, and familiarity with the Risk Management Framework Joint SAP Implementation Guide (JSIG).
  • Expertise in business and security software such as Access, Excel, SIMS, DISS, PowerPoint, Visio, and Word is required.
  • Excellent problem solving skills required.
  • Demonstrated capabilities in presenting ideas written and orally within a cross-functional environment required.
  • Past experience as leader of committees or working groups and membership in regional and national professional organizations is desired.
  • Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance required.
