Job Description
An electronics or electromechanical technician is needed to support operations, maintenance, and upgrade of the three Lincoln Space Surveillance Center (LSSC) space surveillance radar systems. The candidate would be trained to participate in all aspects of high voltage (40kV and above) RF transmitter construction, operations, and maintenance. Duties would include electronic component and subsystem level assembly and troubleshooting as well as monitoring daily operations, and performing maintenance of the transmitter systems. This job would involve working on a variety of equipment including high voltage power supplies, vacuum tubes, precision RF waveguide components, sensitive high power transmitter tubes, high field magnets and high-volume water-cooling systems. Some of this work will be performed at heights. The ability to obtain and maintain tower climbing, first aid and hoist operator certification is essential.
In this position, the technician will assist in laboratory, research, or analytical work under direction or supervision of scientific personnel. Support integration activities, including system-level testing and troubleshooting, and perform preventive maintenance and inspections on transmitter systems and related components. Operate highly technical experimental apparatus. Has demonstrated considerable skill and good performance in the particular field of activity. Requires some supervision. On rare occasions, may be required to cover an earlier shift if coverage is needed. There may be occasions when Maintenance and operational responsibilities could require working off hours, including taking phone calls and text messages at home.
Requirements
The ideal candidate would have experience in maintaining high-voltage equipment and vacuum tube-based equipment such as that found in radar or communication systems.
- Graduation from a two-year day technical school or its equivalent and a minimum of two years of applicable experience are required, or equivalent technical training in electronics.
- Experience in fabricating/repairing electronic equipment and skills in soldering, mechanical fabrication, and assembly.
- Candidates must be able to read and interpret schematics.
- Basic troubleshooting experience using multimeters, oscilloscopes and spectrum analyzers is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of high voltage electronics and of unique safety issues working with high voltage systems is a requirement.
- Evening shift is a priority need for this position; thus, candidates should be available to work standard evening shifts. Preferred candidates would have flexibility to support first shift work on an as-needed basis.
- Applicants must be a U.S. citizen and possess an active DoW security clearance.
- Successful candidates must pass a tower climbing physical test and be willing and able to climb towers.
- The Lincoln Space Surveillance Center is in Westford, MA.
Hiring Range: $38.53 - $42.92
