Position Description
The Senior SAP Application Developer will be responsible for technical analysis, development and unit testing of applications, extensions and integrations for S/4HANA (currently 2023 on-premise edition), SRM and to a limited extent, BW/4HANA. Although primarily responsible for the implementation of application code, they will collaborate with business analysts on the solution design of end-to-end processes enabled by SAP applications. They will maintain code version management and adhere to Clean Core standards and best practices for SAP development and technical documentation.
Primary Duties
- Technical Solution Design: Utilize functional and technical specification templates to manage project scope and overview. Work with Business Analysts to determine preferred technical solutions including UI and application integrations
- SAP Business Workflow: Maintenance of traditional SAP workflow processes and development of new workflows using modern methods
- ABAP Core: Develop traditional RICEFW objects using knowledge of ABAP Object-Oriented programming, Data Dictionary (DDIC) and modularization techniques
- Modern SAP: SAP Restful Application Programming (RAP) Model, CDS Views and OData services, Fiori.
- Enhancements: Enhancements using side-by-side extensibility, Clean Core principles as well as traditional User Exits, Customer Enhancements, Business Add-In’s (BADI’s)
- Application Integration: Integrate S/4 and partner applications using BTP Integration Suite and/or third party iPaaS (Boomi preferred); Expose S/4 data and transactions to conversational AI interfaces and agents; File-based/Idoc/FTP knowledge would be valued as well.
- Security and Authorizations: Collaborate with SAP authorization team to define security roles as needed, ensuring that all code includes execution-level security and in-line authorization checks as needed.
- Documentation: Create and maintain technical documentation for knowledge transfer and future reference.
- Debugging, Testing and Troubleshooting: Effectively use ABAP Test Cockpit, Code Inspector, strong debugging and troubleshooting skills
- Collaboration and Proactive Learning: Collaborate with other SAP developers, business analysts, integration platform owners. Keep skills current through self-motivation (training budget is available).
- Upgrades: Review code for upgrade compatibility and mitigate incompatibilities/simplifications during SAP application upgrade process.
Minimum Qualifications
- 6+ years of experience as a developer; 3+ years in an SAP development environment
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience
- Skill in problem identification and solving system/application issues
- Proven experience in SAP ABAP development and API integrations with S/4 in at least one of the following domains: FI, CO, MM, SD, or HR; optionally SAP SRM, SAP BW/4 HANA
- Working knowledge of SAP clean core principles and modern SAP development methods (BTP, RAP, side-by-side extension, etc.)
- Experience with at least one iPaaS platform: SAP BTP, Boomi, Mulesoft, etc
- Excellent customer service skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly for technical documentation, using MS Office and other platforms
- Excellent collaboration skills
- Understanding of SDLC principles (Waterfall and Agile) and using Jira or similar tools to manage requirements and track work
Occasional off-hour/on-call support is necessary. A certain degree of flexibility of schedule is required as some work (planned/unplanned) must be done outside of major production hours during pre-scheduled maintenance windows.
Preferred Qualifications
- Solution Architecture skills and experience
- Experience implementing AI agents, MCP servers, orchestration in S/4 HANA environment or with data/transactions from an S/4HANA environment.
- UI Development skills (SAP Fiori)
- SAP Certifications in Application Development and/or SAP BTP
- Familiarity with SAP Cloud Application Programming (CAP) Model, node.JS or Java
Hiring Range: $114,600 - $151,900
