The Tactical Defense Systems Group works to find the best ways to protect U.S. Air Force vehicles.  We study vulnerability to radar and infrared sensors as well as novel sensing modalities.  The group focuses on understanding threats through tests and measurements. Test activities include flight, field, and laboratory testing. The group operates two highly instrumented airplanes and numerous ground systems. We prototype advanced sensor concepts and add instrumentation to existing sensors. The group provides answers to survivability questions from our Air Force sponsors by conducting field measurements, analyzing data, and comparing the results to modeling and simulation.  We recommend investments in future USAF systems and present our advice to high-level decision makers in the DoD. 

Job Description

 

What You Will Do:

  • Work with engineering teams to build electrical/mechanical chassis
  • Integrate chassis into larger prototype test assets for laboratory, field, and flight testing
  • Support fixture fabrication, system hardening, and large system deployment
  • Work closely with Flight Test Facility crew chief and mechanics to assure all system builds are flight ready with safety as a top priority
  • Support flight test campaigns to remote locations multiple times per year

Requirements

  • Graduation from a two-year technical school or its equivalent and two years of experience.
  • Well organized, detail oriented, and able to work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a desire to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good “hands-on” skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Motivated self-starter with a solid work ethic
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Reliable (solid attendance)
  • Experience with cable fabrication utilizing MIL style, as well as RF connectors.
  • Soldering skills to include wiring, PCB, SMT
  • Familiarity with machine shop tools including drill press, lathe, mill, etc.
  • Must be able to read and understand schematic diagrams

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced soldering certification desirable / NASA certified.
  • Familiarity with RF test equipment (spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, waveforms generators) is desired
  • Familiarity with Solid Works

Hiring Range: $38.53 - $42.92
